Smith soars in final day in Italy
Jordan Smith delivered a thrilling performance on the final day of the Italian Open as the 24-year-old enjoyed a positive display at the fifth Rolex Series event of the season. Jordan headed to Monza looking to bounce back after missing the cut at the Dunhill Links.
Being a Rolex Series event, matters in Italy took on an added importance with players vying for position with a share of the $7,000,000 prize pot up for grabs. Jordan signed for an opening round of 70 (-1) to make a solid start to the week.
With most of the field scoring strongly, the cut looked set to fall around the three-under-par mark with plenty on offer for all those who could progress into the weekend. Jordan enjoyed an excellent second day to propel himself into the weekend after a four-under-par score saw him placed in T38 on -5. Gaining a further shot on moving day, Jordan managed to lead himself into Sunday on six-under-par in T43.
It was the final day though where Jordan produced a memorable performance to fire himself up the leader board into a T21 and fourteen-under par finish. Firing nine birdies on his way to an eight-under-par round of 63, the Aggreko-supported player proved to be one of the day’s biggest climbers marking another memorable week in his debut European Tour season.
