Smith secures sixth place finish at the Qatar Masters
Jordan Smith secured his second European Tour top-ten finish in the past three weeks as he claimed a T6 finish at the Qatar Masters. The talented 24-year-old, just five events into his European Tour rookie season, blitzed a final six under-par round of 66 to take his score for the week to fourteen-under par and lift him to a T6 finish.
Having enjoyed a third-place finish in South Africa a fortnight earlier and a T39 finish in Abu Dhabi the week before, the Wiltshire-based golfer headed to the second stage of ‘The Desert Swing’ in fine fettle.
Jordan started the week in solid fashion with a one-under par first round and got his second round off to the perfect start with an eagle at the first. This prompted an excellent round for the Englishman as he duly carded a second round of 66 which lifted him into the top-ten on seven-under par at the halfway stage.
Moving day brought further success for Smith as a one-under par round kept him in touch with the leading pack but it was the final day where Jordan returned to blistering form. An excellent birdie chip on the twelfth provided a highlight as the 24-year old posted his second round of 66 for the week lifting himself into T6 on fourteen-under par. This meant that Jordan ended the week just two shots behind the overall winner, Jeunghun Wang.
Duncan Maxim, MB Partners’ Head of Golf, felt that the week was further proof of Jordan’s ability on the premier European golfing stage.
“It has been another great week for Jordan. He's starting to show his real class and gaining in belief with every event he plays. He’s always been able to take everything in his stride and all departments of his game have developed very quickly. He's heading into Dubai full of confidence, where hopefully he will be able to challenge come Sunday.”
Next up for Smith is the Omega Dubai Desert Classic as he looks to consolidate his position in the upper reaches of the Race to Dubai Order of Merit.
